Interview with a Psychology student

Lyang is 28 years old and studied Psychology at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. She chose this major because she wanted to help people with the problems they are experiencing and believes that many of those problems are related to mental health issues. Another important reason: the major gave her the opportunity to get to know herself better.

Improving your communication skills and learning to understand other people’s feelings was what she liked most about the major. The assignments mostly consisted of doing research, group discussions, and presentations. Lyangs favourite subject  is counselling. It is an important subject as it can really help people who are, for example, experiencing depression. Other courses she followed were medicine, leadership, and management. Important subjects for psychologists, as they are all focused on working with people. Lyang graduated successfully and plans to become a consultant.
