If you dream of reporting the news to fellow Cambodians, then a major in Journalism is the right fit for you. This major focuses on creating information for various media such as newspapers, magazines, websites, television and radio. You will learn how to gather, analyze and prepare all kinds of information before publishing it. You will build strong communicative skills. 

Interview with a Journalism student

Sokun Ngan is a 22-year old student of the Department of Media and Communication at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. She mentions that the availability of scholarships was very important to her when deciding what major to follow. Luckily, she was able to receive a scholarship for this major. What inspired her to enroll in this major, was her dream of becoming a journalist who speaks on behalf of the underrepresented women and other people in her community. She wants to speak up about these issues to create a better society

Sokun loves that the major focuses on photography and video production. She also really enjoys that she is able to write about issues surrounding women in Cambodia. Her favorite subject so far was Video Production. She really never got tired of it, and never procrastinated homework for the subject. After graduation, Sokun would like to become a public relation officer, with a background in journalism.

Sokun’s advice for high school students? Sokun emphasizes that you need to be confident that you can make a difference. She says that if you really want something, you’ll always be able to achieve that goal, as long as you are willing to push yourself and work hard. Practice makes perfect!
