CHORK Vuthy is a 5th year student of Water and Environmental Engineering at Institute of Technology of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. He was generally interested in the environment, and therefore wanted to enroll in this major. He likes it that the major focuses on, amongst other things, water quality, environmental impact, and solid waste. His favourite subject so far was a subject about urban drainage systems. He spends around 32 hours per week on studying. After graduation, he would love to work in a job where he can investigate groundwater quality to improve irrigation.
Are you interested in a major similar to the Ecological, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering major? Vuthy says that you should make sure you enjoy mathematics, physics and chemistry in high school. These are the three subjects you apply most throughout the major.
Interview with an Ecological, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering graduate
Sophun (23) recently graduated at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia and has acquired an Engineering major specialising in Water Resource and Rural Infrastructure. According to Sophun this major is needed most and has international competition. The things Sophun liked most about the major are the study of the Hydrological system, solving various water problems and irrigation systems. Sophun also enjoyed studying the rainwater catchment system. This major more than met Sophun’s expectations: because of Sophun’s achievements a scholarship to pursue a master’s degree abroad was offered to Sophun. Sophun’s plans for work: solving water problems in the city.
Sophun advises students who are interested in this major to focus on the high school subjects of Science, Mathematics and Physics. English is also crucial because most documents are in English. With these subjects you can choose any type of engineering major and all of these majors are needed in Cambodia.
