This major will teach you about the chemical substances and processes that occur in plants, animals, and microorganisms. Biochemistry offers a broad range of career opportunities. For example, you could work in a research lab, product development, the food industry or healthcare, among many other fields.

Interview with a Biochemistry student

Soraya is 23 and is studying Biochemistry at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Soriya chose this major because she wanted to learn about bacteria in food and everywhere around us; this major is to her liking, especially the lab work involved. She says that the major takes a lot of time. From Monday to Friday you have to study for 4 to 5 hours and on Saturday from 7 am to 8.40 pm and sometimes even on Sunday. 

Her tips if you are interested in this major: You should pay special attention to the high school subjects of Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and English. You should also take some training and do some volunteering to find out if this is the major you love.
