Interview with Architecture students

AE Sunthorng (18) has just finished high school and is now studying in the Architecture department at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. BUN Chheang (19) studies Architecture at the Royal University of Fine Art and is in his second year. He chose this major because of his love of drawing and art. What he likes most is that you create something new, make scale models and learn about Cambodia’s building culture. What Sunthorng likes about architecture is that the environment and surrounding nature are studied and it appeals to your creativity in design. Infrastructure needs to be built and coordinated in Cambodia and architecture is the most important part of any building construction. For this major you need a lot of time to study; from Monday to Saturday and extra time is required for research. Chheang adds that the workload varies according to the subject, but it really takes a lot of time. After graduation Sunthorng want to pursue a career as an architect. When asked about his future plans Chheang mentions that he wants to own a business related to Architecture.

Chheang advises high school students to pay special attention to Mathematics, Physics and Geometry, as these subjects are essential in architecture.
