Interview with a Forestry student

SEA Ly (24) is a year 2 student majoring in Forestry at the Royal University of Agriculture. He chose this major because he loves natural resources, forests, loves planting and wants to do research in this field and become an expert in work related to Forestry. What he likes about his major is that he works directly in the forest and learns about the environment, plants and natural resources management. Moreover, he gets knowledge about plants and planting and about looking after plants and forests. His favourite subject so far is Botany, because he learns about everything that is to be known about plants, such as names, stem shapes, leaves etc. Ly adds that he has to study 5 days a week from 8.00 to 12.00, but he loves it. In the future Ly hopes to work as a government officer, for instance as a ranger at the Ministry of Environment, or as a chief of Forestry in Forest Administration; but there are plenty of options. He would also like to own a business and sell plants for decoration.

His advice for high school students who are interested in this major: Pay special attention to the high school subjects of Biology, Geography and Chemistry. English and computer skills are also important for research in this field and of course you need to be able to communicate with others.
