Then you should consider majoring in Communication. You will learn about human communication in diverse contexts, such as online communication, internal and external business communication, and political communication. Moreover, you will learn about diverse communication theories and how to put these into practice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interview with Communication students<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Soo Haingkheang, Huyleang Mann and Rathana are all students at the <strong>Department of Media and Communication<\/strong> at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Most of them joined this major because they were interested in <strong>media<\/strong>, <strong>communication<\/strong>, and <strong>English<\/strong>. Rathana says she likes this major a lot, because it is very <strong>up to date<\/strong>. Huyleang adds that she likes the major because it also focuses on <strong>English <\/strong>and <strong>media<\/strong>. She mentions that there are a lot of opportunities to <strong>develop yourself <\/strong>and there\u2019s even a <strong>photography festival<\/strong> where you can show your photography work to other students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there are also things about the major that the students dislike. The students say that the major can be <strong>challenging <\/strong>sometimes, as you have to focus on a lot of subjects at the same time. The students agree that the subjects <strong>English<\/strong>, <strong>Khmer<\/strong>, <strong>Literature<\/strong>, and <strong>History <\/strong>are the most relevant high school subjects for following a major in Communication. Rathana says that you should <strong>definitely study this major<\/strong> if you love sharing your ideas with other people, or if you are interested in (social) media, entertainment, journalism and public relations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three students all have a different<strong> favourite subject<\/strong>. Soo really enjoyed <strong>Journalism Inquiry<\/strong>, as this subject provided the students the chance to <strong>practice the skill of writing news reports <\/strong>for both national and international news outlets. Huyleang also enjoyed subjects about writing news, because she likes telling Cambodians what happened in their country. Rathana on the other hand really liked the subject <strong>Public Relations<\/strong>.<br>After graduation, Soo wants to become a <strong>news reporter<\/strong>, <strong>work for an NGO<\/strong> or in <strong>public relations<\/strong>. Huyleang on the other hand wants to become a<strong> freelance journalist<\/strong> or a <strong>communication advisor<\/strong>. This major focuses on creating information for various media such as newspapers, magazines, websites, television and radio. You will learn how to gather, analyze and prepare all kinds of information before publishing it. You will build strong communicative skills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interview with a Journalism student<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Sokun Ngan is a 22-year old student of the <strong>Department of Media and Communication<\/strong> at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. She mentions that the availability of <strong>scholarships <\/strong>was very important to her when deciding what major to follow. Luckily, she was able to receive a scholarship for this major. What inspired her to enroll in this major, was her <strong>dream of becoming a journalist <\/strong>who speaks on behalf of the underrepresented women and other people in her community. She wants to speak up about these issues to <strong>create a better society<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sokun loves that the major focuses on <strong>photography <\/strong>and <strong>video production<\/strong>. She also really enjoys that she is able to write about issues surrounding women in Cambodia. Her favorite subject so far was <strong>Video Production<\/strong>. She really never got tired of it, and never procrastinated homework for the subject. After graduation, Sokun would like to become a <strong>public relation officer<\/strong>, with a background in journalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sokun\u2019s advice for high school students?<\/strong> Sokun emphasizes that you need to be confident that you can make a difference. She says that if you really want something, you\u2019ll always be able to achieve that goal, as long as you are willing to push yourself and work hard. You will learn how to produce and publish these different types of media successfully and will study the impact media has on society and culture. A degree in Mass Communication and Media Management will offer varied career opportunities; from advertising and broadcasting to public relations, journalism, and publishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interview with Mass Communication and Media Management students<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Imrorn and Sar Sanponhroath are both students of <strong>Media Management <\/strong>at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Sar indicates that her <strong>interest in production and writing<\/strong> made her decide to enroll in this major. She had always loved to tell stories and often wondered how videos (such as movies and music clips) were made. Her favorite things about the major are that she can<strong> freely share her opinion <\/strong>and that the major taught her to <strong>be more considerate in making judgements<\/strong>. Moreover, she likes the fact that she now understands more about <strong>sensitive topics<\/strong> and that she is comfortable discussing these topics, while some Cambodians are not yet comfortable doing that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What Imrorn dislikes about the major, is that students need a lot of <strong>equipment <\/strong>such as a camera, high performing laptop, et cetera. Sar adds to this by saying that she dislikes the fact that there is only <strong>little time <\/strong>to practice and prepare for productions. Moreover, she mentions that the techniques of filming and the preparation for a production were <strong>different <\/strong>than expected. However, both students are still very satisfied with their major and highly enjoy all subjects. Imrorn\u2019s<strong> favorite subjects <\/strong>so far were Principle and Practice of Journalism, Khmer Writing Composition, Media and Society, and Introduction to Research Study. These subjects really helped him towards his <strong>goal of becoming a communication professional<\/strong> in the future. Sar\u2019s favorite subject is currently Radio Production. She explains that this topic is fun, since you get to test audio recordings and learn about different sound effects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chhum Chhayvathanak is a<strong> recent graduate of Media Management<\/strong> and currently works as a <strong>Senior Digital Communication Officer<\/strong>. What he loved about his major was the focus on digital (communication) skills and news reports. <strong>His biggest tip for high school students<\/strong> is to <strong>read <\/strong>as much as possible, and to pay attention to the subject of<strong> Khmer Literature<\/strong>. This subject allowed him to understand more about the context when starting to write a story or news report. Sar and Imrorn agree with this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Imrorn\u2019s tip for you?<\/strong> Make sure that you are proficient in English and that you have sufficient knowledge about general culture. <strong>Sar advises<\/strong> all high school students to be more confident and brave.
